How an actor and an Entrepreneur meet similar challenges to connect with their audience.

January 3rd, 2011 2 Comments » Filed under Sales

When I used to  coach  Unlock the Game Members, I loved to use the theater example with Hamlet and his “To be or not to be” so appropriate to the human soul. You don’t become Hamlet overnight. You prepare to become Hamlet. It is not the same to recite Hamlet as it is to “Become Hamlet”

If you are an actor,  most likely it is your purpose,  you love what you do, and you want to add your own magic to the character,  you have to find your way to undoubtedly  “become  Hamlet”, because otherwise, you will never make it to Opening Night.

The deeper his  soul blends with Hamlet’s soul in the process, the better job he is  going to do,  at interpreting the character in its own brilliance, and the more all audiences will be enchanted by him and his craft. Now, what is the science behind “Becoming Hamlet”, or being a master actor. The same science behind mastering the Art of the Entrepreneurial Mindset and being a master Entrepreneur.

It is hard to believe when you think about it. But one of the main elements to accomplish  success  in acting,  is repetition.   Rehearsal, right?   Inspiration needs Perspiration  at once and in unison with her. As a matter of fact we learn through repetition and unlearn through repetition. Repetition is key.

You get that concept,  right? Now, bear with me here. Believe it or not, his is the  same process you go through to become an Entrepreneur who actually masters the Art of the Entrepreneurial Mindset.  You prepare yourself  like an actor for Opening Night for your Audience. When all your thinking,  feeling and acting are  going to be aligned to become the Mindset that will manifest the Entrepreneur in its entire  potential.

How do you prepare ? You prepare by studying the character in depth, reflecting and researching on his or her personality, and life experience. Then, you start the repetition. Rehearsal. Until you master it. The same way an Entrepreneur prepares to meet his or her audience, by reflecting and researching their prospect’s thinking and  needs, and crafting the language to communicate the solution, in a process of repetition.

Fear, Entrepreneurship and Thoughts.

fight

I am here watching Chilean TV,  I am fascinated with the miners crusade. At the same time, I am working  in the computer figuring out how to engage you guys at a deeper level…and facing the fear involved in the process of building trust, invading the lack of knowledge,  the unknown territory.

Definitely the antidote for fear is knowledge…information.

Last week Neal Worthington and I spoke about “Fear” in our blogtalk radio program. “Passing the Torch of Sustainability to Millennials” . We chew on how our self belief is buried in so many layers of mind thinking and speaking, instead of heart thinking and speaking. How hard it is to awake the cells in our bodies that don’t believe in ourselves and let them sing the keynote of our existence in somewhere in the song of creation.

How building trust is a step at the time process. Taking carefully and mindfully layer by layer that is interfering with the ONENESS of all things away. Like pealing an onion, crying in the process. Crying for the pain of the loss and the joy of the gain.

How this process has a sequence, like every process in nature that cannot be rushed. A pear is ripe when it is ripe, and a child will walks when it walks.

How the face of fear visited me every step of the process, and how I had to confront it and start the conversation.  How more and more, makes sense that the fear of the new is overcome by repetition. Rehearsal, study and ultimately knowledge. like learning to ride a bicycle. Once you learn it, you master it for life.

How feeling the fear out loud,  is such a liberating experience, it creates coherence and resonance. Because we are not the only ones who are afraid. We all are afraid. Afraid of the illusion of not knowing, or making mistakes. Or the illusion that the result is the only important thing, neglecting the richness of the process.  See how crazy it is? How are you going to learn without trial and error. Why would mistakes then would be such a sacred cow. Pure nonsense. I tell you.

When you are riding your passion and you are doing that thing called your purpose, they both shine through the fear of the new. Time after time, trial after error, until you become a master of the craft. Then the illusion of fear will be only a memory in the past.

Neal asked me to please listen to the program  last week. The truth is I was so afraid that couldn’t listen to the previous one. I did. And yes, you can tell I am afraid here. However, the message gets across in spite of the limited vocabulary produced by the tension of the new.

Here is the link. Let me know what you think.

Listen to internet radio with Soul Hang Out on Blog Talk Radio

An Entrepreneur has to start by working with fear rather than allowing fear to take over. That can only be overcome by understanding that it is only normal to be afraid and all you have to do is look at fear in the eye, confront it and conquer it. Through repetition, the same way it was inserted in your mind when you lost your innocence as a child. Repetitively.

I haven’t been writing too much on the blog lately…I have been very busy with the marketing,  giving the last touch ups to my offer. Also, working on exciting projects with some facebook friends. Melissa Allison and Ani Kaspar.

After my lifetime research of the human mind and behaviors, as many of you know, I decided to focus in the Entrepreneur Mindset. Simply because small businesses fail at a rate of 8O% within the first 5 years.

I believe with all my heart that to turn that figure around we need to start aligning our thoughts and start THINKING like Entrepreneurs. There is no other way. When you align your thoughts, your brain takes about 30 days to acquire the repetitive message,  shifting the thinking and modifying the behaviors.

…And “Fear” is the first thought/feeling  you have to work with. To succeed in business you have to be able to use the fear to your advantage. Not against you. By accepting it first.

It is as choice, and a fundamental one if you want to succeed in business.

At the same time I have been thinking that it makes sense to start a diary on Soul Hangout, about my story as an Entrepreneur.  How everything started.  What were the thoughts behind the story. What are now the thoughts behind the story. “Living in the Present is History in the Making”.

So… stay tuned to hear about how it all began with my own the Inner Child,  meet Grace.  How it all began on January 27 2007.  It will be in chapters. That way you will not have to read too long.  That way you wand I will look forward to the next day.  To the  ongoing Entrepreneur thinking like an Entrepreneur story.

And don’t forget “Fear” is the first illusion you need to  eradicate from your thinking if you want to be a successful Entrepreneur.

Next week we will talk about “Judgment” Another thought to align to succeed as an Entrepreneur.

Inner Child Inspirational quote of the day

There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.

~Howard Thurman ~

…And the genuine in yourself, is hidden behind the veil of forgetfulness, in the memories of your Inner Child. You don’t have to reinvent it. All you have to do is remember it is actually there. Once you hold it back, you will not be pulled by someone else any more

Inner Child Inspirational quote of the day.

As a little girl I used to daydream about my real father coming on a white horse to rescue me.

~Christine Keeler~

One way of reading my life is that I have been in constant search for a father.

~Christine Keeler~

In here you see “the drama of the gifted child” as Alice Miller would say. A little girl who dreams for her father to come and rescue her carrying the same dream into adulthood. What she didn’t understand is that in adulthood she didn’t need a father any more. Now she was an adult…makes sense?

There is a saying in Spanish that is so beautifully tied to the Inner Child presence in the adult. It goes like this.

“Every adult is not more nor less than a dysfunctional child”

Carrying the dysfunction into adulthood, makes our behaviors  childish and competitive. A dysfunctional child doesn’t understand cooperation and unity.

If you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work.

~Kahlil Gibran~

This seems to me the message that millennials are giving us. You see? They are right on the “money” If you cannot work with love you leave your work, and seriously find what you love and make a living of it. Your contribution is needed. The way to find that flame, your passion, it is imperative to connect with your Inner Child he/she will whisper in your ear exactly what you need to know~Turning your unsatisfied Inner Child into a satisfied source of knowledge and creativity.

If a superior give any order to one who is under him which is against that man’s conscience, although he do not obey it yet he shall not be dismissed.

~Francis of Assisi~

Not either if you are a helpless child. You owe it to yourself to reclaim your integrity. Giving birth to your Inner Child is the way to reconnect with the wholeness of who you really are.

Fortunately, somewhere between chance and mystery lies imagination, the only thing that protects our freedom, despite the fact that people keep trying to reduce it or kill it off altogether.

~Luis Bunuel~

Replenish your imagination. No matter what. It is your most precious personal asset. It is the link between divinity and your soul purpose. When you are ready, your Inner Child will be there waiting for you to launch your passion into the world with faithful courage, and then is when the world will have the privilege of finding out about the fascinating forms of your dream ignited by your imagination.

“A quality education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, provide children with the protection they need from the hazards of poverty, labor exploitation and disease, and given them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential.”

~Audrey Hepburn~

Today, my friend, I want to envision this quote as the blueprint of the new world. Today I want to stop and create the image of a future world where every child’s full potential will be the priority. A world where no child will grow to become violent because his very entitled needs were not met. A world of peace where your Inner Child will become your partner at thriving and blossoming into the gorgeous flower you are. A world where your passion to contribute is important.

If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.

~Marcel Proust~

We all have the obligation to go back to reinventing out capacity to dream.  Nurturing our imagination as we did when we were kids. It is in that sacred place where our connection to divinity was broken where we can find ourselves again. Giving birth to that Inner Child that was induced to keep silence and not allowed to dream.
